Collect for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity

O God, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: increase and multiply upon us thy mercy; that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal; grant this, O heavenly Father, for the sake of Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Reblog: Gweenbrick

Thanks to Joey Prever (a.k.a. Steve Gershom), I have been introduced to the majesty that is Gweenbrick. I am very happy now. I spend a lot of time thinking about introversion, masculinity, how opaque sports are to me, and how other dudes must be better and happier than I am for understanding and sharing in this mystery. Here I can identify with someone as lost as I generally am.

  1. If you want the basics of masculine nature, Jack Donovan's The Way Of Men will wake you up. http://www.jack-donovan.com/axis/2013/05/new-reviews-of-the-way-of-men-with-some-criticisms/

    1. I am a little hesitant about this. I know only a little bit about Jack Donovan, and have very mixed feelings about the little that I know or have read, some of which seems troubling to me. (However, my ignorance seems to me a good reason not to deliver any verdict against him any more than for him; and in any case, I loathe suppressing comments.)

  2. I have no doubt that you would find it troubling. The question is, how much of what he says is true?

  3. I think Gabriel may have been trying to imply that he found it troubling because it was false and potentially destructive.

DrAndroSF seems to be implying that Gabriel finds it troubling for some other reason.

But DrAndroSF is being a little bit passive-agressive, which is super duper manly, so it's hard to say exactly what he means.

    1. I really don't know enough about it to label it false or destructive; I have read things that suggest it might be, or that it might contain such elements to some extent -- but, this being the internet, I hesitate to credit such reports, especially given how little I do know of him. Conversely, it is entirely possible that I might find Donovan troubling for any number of reasons, including reasons that do me no credit.

  4. Thank you , JP, for your super duper manly ad hominem remarks. Always impressive. I said it might be troubling for Mr Blanchard because he is a gay man exploring the issue of masculinity and he is an orthodox Catholic. Mr Donovan's books, which I have read and greatly value for their no-nonsense approach, have proven very provocative and troubling even to secular gays and his robust appreciation of the pre-moral masculine would not be a joyful read for a Christian. That's exactly what I meant.

  5. I don't quite care for the direction this dialogue is taking vis-a-vis the interaction of the parties. Unless a comment is really abusive, I will normally publish it, but I would like to urge you both to be more gentlemanly and magnanimous in your approach to one another.
