Collect for the First Sunday of Advent

O almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armor of light, now in the time of this mortal life in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; that in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through the same Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

Music: Sufjan Stevens

Partly because the combox has gotten a bit more intense than usual of late and I thought we could use a change of pace, but also because it's Christmas and I'm extremely fond of it, I am sharing this song by Sufjan Stevens. He's about the only artist I've run into so far whose Christmas albums are actually interesting -- they certainly maintain his wonderful blend of folk, indie, and pure experiment. And this particular one, with its accompanying cartoon, is just adorable.

  1. Absolutely love these albums and could go on and on about the standout tracks, but I'll say for now that "Christmas in the Room" is a poignant favorite.
